All the Colors

Another exciting Sunday night here at Chateau de Criz.  The condo is clean. Laundry is done. Lunch is prepared for tomorrow. I finally washed my make-up brushes and put coconut oil on my hair (it's been WAY too long since I got it cut so I'm hoping this can continue to help control the crazy split ends I'm dealing with). I washed Maggy's bed, but she may be due for a new one... rather than smelling like dog like it did before, now it smells like wet dog- bleh!

I've been really interested in different areas of physical health lately- specifically looking at Pilates, yoga, meditation and some other related areas. I'll admit, I've been rotten. I haven't run in 4 weeks. And I'm starting back this week- this is my public declaration to help keep me accountable- but I know I need to exercise in other ways than just running. My awesome friend Leslie recommended a Pandora station I've fallen in love with (Heart Meditations) and I've found that it's really good for helping me stay mellow. I've heard some of the 'songs' (tracks is probably a better term for it) talk about Chakras so I started doing some googling today to learn more about Chakras.

And now I'm kind of obsessed with learning more. Unfortunately, local libraries don't seem to have any books in right now that would be good so I've just got Googling to satisfy my desire to learn more.  There are 7 Chakras, and each has a color with it. They run through the core/middle of your body- Root chakra (red), Sacral chakra (orange), Navel chakra (yellow), Heart chakra (green), Throat chakra (blue/turquoise), Third Eye chakra (indigo), and lastly The Crown (violet).I took an assessment to see how open my Chakras are, and it's really interesting. There are specific things you can do to help open chakras that are blocked to help open and recharge your flow of energy in your body and connectedness. Blocked chakras cause a block in the flow of your energy and can result in physical illness or being out of balance mentally/emotionally.

During the month of October, I'm going to work to open my chakras, in addition to continuing my efforts of health. I've lost 3 pounds this week by changing my diet a bit, and it feels great. Still more to go, but serves as encouragement for good choices and behavioral changes.

What things do you do for your health that make you feel good or have helped you in your journey to well-being? I'd love to hear what you find success with!

Life Moves Pretty Fast...

' Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.' -Ferris Bueller It's been just a little while. And by that, I mean it's been over a year. Wow. But I guess that's what happens when life happens. So, I'm finally carving out some time (or times, if I'm being totally honest) to write. It's not for lack of wanting. But you know, priorities. Just a few things pull my time here and there these days. Work, husband, fur kids, human kid, friends, family... the list goes on. Let me give you the down and dirty on what's been happening. January 2016, in a visit to Patrick in Aspen, Colorado, we got stuck on a mountain pass. Literally.  We had to get mountain rescued off. This is one of those stories that is SO good in person to tell, and quite frankly, where people often think I'm making shit up because it's that crazy.   That same visit, we eloped! We knew we wanted to get married. Y...

Pics or it didn't happen

That's the old adage, right? Pictures (aka evidence) or you didn't do it, right? Just like it's not real unless it's FBO (good old Facebook official). Funny how we need the digital evidence to prove what we've done in real time. It's hard to believe that a month ago I was packing my bags for a 10-day adventure across the country. It feels like it was just yesterday, but forever ago at the same time.  Portland, Salt Lake City, Omaha, Cincinnati and Raleigh.  But it was so much more than that.  It was laughing with friends and family that we don't see often enough. It was seeing that only half of Oregon is the tree-lined lush state. It was making up stories of rock monsters and talking to all the different species of animals in the fields along the road. It was eating gas station food, taking a gamble with the Mexican restaurant near the hotel and 'modern' rest stops. It was karaoke, wine, beer and stepping foot in states we'd never been in (whic...

I Closed My Eyes

It sounds so easy, and is something we typically do so freely. Closing our eyes. We do it when we need to rest. Or quickly to blink. Or in moments when we may be fighting back tears. Maybe it's in frustration and you're counting to 10 simultaneously. When you're wrapped in a warm embrace of someone you love. Stopping yourself from seeing something you don't want to see. There are so many reasons we close our eyes. During my time in higher education, so often we used activities that called on our students to close their eyes. And in those moments I either opted into facilitating the activity so I could keep my eyes open, or participated with my eyes closed, feeling nervous, tense and uncomfortable the entire time. If there was a way I could participate and keep my eyes open, I did.  I have always been so uneasy to close my eyes in moments like this in a public space. Until last week. I was at a coworkers house for our December lulu staff meeting. And we talked ...
